TSIA2 exam prep
TSIA2 practice for reading, writing, math and the essay
The TSIA2 helps decide whether you can start college-level courses in Texas, so it is worth walking in prepared. This question bank gives you plenty of practice in every part of the test, with explanations that help you understand each answer. You get 455 multiple-choice questions across English language arts and reading (ELAR) and mathematics, organized around the published TSIA2 test specifications. Every question explains why the correct answer is right and why each other choice is not, so you can learn from every mistake.
What's included
- A free 25-question diagnostic covering reading, writing and math.
- Two practice tests that mirror the real test lengths: 30 ELAR questions (15 reading and 15 writing) and 20 math questions. Like the real TSIA2, they are untimed.
- A 30-question mixed drill.
- Practice sets for every skill area, from main idea and vocabulary in context to grammar, punctuation, algebra, geometry and statistics.
- Essay practice with three prompts, a 1 to 8 rubric and three model essays per prompt at high, middle and low scores, each with notes on why it earns its score.
- Explanations for every answer choice on every multiple-choice question.
Every question is original and written to the official content outline for this exam, with an explanation for every answer. These are practice questions, not real exam questions. Not sure yet? Take the free TSIA2 diagnostic first.
What's not included
- This is a question bank only, without video lessons or a course.
- The real TSIA2 is adaptive, adjusting question difficulty as you go. Our practice tests use fixed sets of questions, so they cannot give you an official-style score or diagnostic level.
- Essays are not scored automatically. You score your own essay with the rubric and compare it with the sample essays.
- These are original practice questions, not questions from the actual test, and your practice results cannot predict your official scores.
- Registration and testing are arranged through your college or testing center.

What score do I need on the TSIA2?
For ELAR, Texas uses a score of 945 or higher on the multiple-choice section with an essay score of 5 to 8, or a lower multiple-choice score paired with a diagnostic level of 5 or 6 and an essay score of 5 to 8. For math, it uses 950 or higher, or a lower score with a qualifying diagnostic level. Check with your college for its exact requirements.
How is the TSIA2 essay scored?
The essay is scored as a whole on a 1 to 8 scale, looking at purpose and focus, organization, development and support, sentence variety and style, conventions and critical thinking. Our rubric and sample essays use that same 1 to 8 scale.
Are the practice tests timed?
No. The real TSIA2 is untimed, so our practice tests are untimed too. Take the time you need, just as you would on test day.
Does the math section cover calculator questions?
The questions cover quantitative reasoning, algebra, geometry and statistics. Some questions are easier with a basic calculator, and the explanations show the steps either way.
Can I try it first?
Yes. The 25-question diagnostic is free.
How much does it cost?
$9.99 for the question bank, both practice tests, the drill, every practice set and the essay practice.
